daniwithtea: (just ducky)
i'm in desperate need of a day off, but couldn't really take any time this week because of the prep for this week's trip. so, what do I get?

the main water supply to our house is frozen solid.

the problem, as far as we can tell, is outside the foundation, underneath our (concrete) stoop. completely inaccessible. find out from a neighbor last night that the area under the concrete is apparently completely hollow, and the only way to prevent this from happening in the future would likely be to dig up the concrete and fill the whole thing in.

right now, i'm waiting for the nice man from the borough water department to come out and verify that yes, there's nothing to be done. (he was out on a lot of these calls yesterday.)

for right now, it appears that the only thing to be done is to keep the taps open (we have NO water - not even a trickle), and wait for temperatures above freezing, which we're not expected to hit until next week.

this is not the day off i wanted.
daniwithtea: (me and my pussy)
trying to squeeze every bit of not-school, not-work stuff i can into a day when i'm dealign with pain issues that don't want me off the couch is, well, difficult. got some grocery shopping done after i dropped mer off at the train station, and trashed* the living room & my desk. after taking care of some stuff online, i decided to be smart and check the weather in dallas, where i'll be headed in two weeks. well, shit. it never occurred to me that it would be cold there. all these off-site meetings are always in warm places. and crap, my meeting wardrobe is much more suited to september in palm springs and vegas than to texas in february were it's apparently 40 degrees

so, for my own reference, here's what i have to work with and what I need, so I can fill in the gaps in the next two weeks...
need:
M - bottom (khakis) & top (brown stripe knit turtleneck)
T - bottom & top; dress or pantsuit for dinner
W - bottom & top
R - bottom & top
F - bottom (khakis) & top; jeans & t-shirt for breakdown; sweatshirt or fleece for flight

items to work with:
black skirt with black jacket - need top & hose
black stripey suit - need top
blue pattern skirt - need top & hose
turquoise pattern skirt - need top & hose
grey knit sweaterdress - need hose

*in our house, to trash is to collate mail and empty boxes and stuff and place it in trash bags. it is not used in the conventional sense.

while enjoying my yummy tuna sandwich, i got an email from snapfish saying my pics were posted. (last week, i sent two recently discovered rolls of ilm to be developed- one of which i was fairly certain had the pics of my best friend from college/first crush's wedding pics on it.)

3 seconds later, before i had a chance to go look at the pics, i got another email - there was a problem with my order. oh, crud.

it seems that one of the rolls i sent was undevelopable. i don't know if it was because of age or what, but they were unable to print pics from it.

the pictures i did get were of some food from an SCA event (anyone remember who made the candy treasure chest, or for what?), crappy low-light pics from my cousin's wedding about 4 years ago, a basket of flowers sitting on my front porch that topher had sent me when i was working at ephn, and several pics of my exes at the aquarium.

see what's missing? yep, claire's wedding.

those pics, if they existed, were apparently on the roll that they were unable to develop. or i never had any to begin with and i'm misremembering. (I can't imagine *not* taking pictures at her wedding, though.) Tally: the Christmas ball wedding favor from her wedding? lost in my last breakup. photos from her wedding? vanished into thin air. photos of her and i doing things that she wouldn't have done sober? lost to another ex, although i wouldn't be all that surprised if they found their way to the interweb sometime in the past 10 years.

so, yeah. i've got this pic (f-locked), and the letter she wrote me when I left school.

and one of her husband's grateful dead cds.

and my tattoo.

wow, this is bothering me a lot more than I thought it was. i think i'll go throw on a broomstick skirt, listen to some dead, and smoke a parliament. okay, so i quit smoking and we don't have any parliaments anyway...and it's too damn cold for a broomstick skirt.

but the dead? that i can do.

miss you, bear.

Okay, because I promised, and before I forget: quilting pics behind the cut. They're not all here, because I forgot to get pics before I wrapped them, and some of the pics are f-locked because I haven't had time to edit out the faces yet.

holiday quilt madness lies this way... )

happy birthday [livejournal.com profile] kyleri!!!

Had off yesterday for MLK - that was nice. I spent most of the day in an "I don't wanna!" state of mind, though. My first class is tomorrow, and I'm just not ready to give up my free time.

It's 90's week on [livejournal.com profile] audiography, and I'm enjoying it way too much.

I found two rolls of film - I haven't used a 35mm camera in years, so they're pretty old...one I'm pretty sure has pics from the wedding of my best friend from college (AKA the first girl I ever had a devastating crush on). She got married in, 2001 (I think?), so that will be interesting to see.

Serenity is officially the first HD-DVD to be decoded and torrented. My favorite slashdot comment on the subject? "If pirates are willing to rip off a HD version of "Serenity", then there should be enough demand to make another movie." If only.

Speaking of fan-girl dreamland, if you're a Buffy fan and you haven't heard...Joss Whedon is writing his own fanfic. Well, that's pretty much what it boils down to, at any rate. Buffy Season 8, from Dark Horse. True to form, Joss is writing first and last eps and some bits inbetween. First one comes out in March, and is available for pre-order here. (#2 also available for pre-order here.)

Let's see...birthday, school, pictures, Serenity, Buffy.

Yep, s'all I got for now!

how exactly is it that i never saw army of darkness until now?
daniwithtea: (Default)
hey [livejournal.com profile] kyleri

check in when you can, so i can stop worrying that you're under the avalanche they're showing on TV?

thanks hon.
daniwithtea: (Default)
...than watch bad recaps of stupid game show moments.

from an old episode of hollywood squares:
question: what do guys from philly dunk their pretzels in?
answer: girls from jersey.

ok, yeah, i'm easily amused.

since i'm already posting, a small update. winter holidays were wonderful, and i fortunately didn't get sick until afterward. now, i'm sick enough that the doctor is seeing me on a saturday. i am a miserable whiny bitch when i'm sick, and mer gets mega girlfriend points for being so wonderful over the past few days.

time for another nap now.
daniwithtea: (Default)
long time, no post, i know. things have been a tad bit crazy, and still are, but I'm not quite ready to move my ass yet, so I'm updating here instead.

-holiday pres 1: quilted tree skirt, complete except for finishing hand-sewing the binding
-holiday pres 2: appliqued ornament wall hanging, done.
-holiday pres 3: quilted knotwork wall hanging, done.
-holiday pres 4: quilted xmas squares wall hanging, done.
-holiday pres 5: rail-style lap quilt, done.
-holiday pres 6: quilted hunting scene, done.
-holiday pres 7: victorian-style quilted wall hanging, done.
-holiday pres 8: xxl lap quilt, quilting needs to be finished and binding needs to be done.
-super sekrit applique project: fabric dyed, pieces cut, will be done...um...later.
-super sekrit quilt project: pattern drawn, some fabric dyed, will be done...even more later.
pictures will come on all theses, i swear.

i'm not even going to get into the clusterfuck of holiday scheduling with the families this year.

in work news, it's still a bit nutty, although slow this time of year, and i got a nice raise.

in school news, well, there's school news. i caught a random itch and decided to go back to scool to finish my bachelor's. all my credits from kutztown transferred, and i aced my placement tests. i'm enrolled in two classes (advanced algebra and econ) for the spring, and will probably step up to the condensed classes or at least online classes after that. i've temporarily declaredmy major as business administration. I am purposely not using my company's tutition reimbursement, for three reasons. 1, I don't want to be tied to my company for a year after i finish; 2, i did NOT want to go for IT; and 3, if I want to change my major to auto repair or bricklaying, no one can tell me no. Becoming a mechanic is looking more and more tempting, lemme tell ya. So, whee, school.

i know i haven't updated [livejournal.com profile] dykewaddery in a while either, but things are proceeding more or less on-schedule. there will be a few unplanned-for purchases in the coming months, as I will need a Windows box for school and don't want to be tied to my work laptop. we'll also be fixing up the garage in the spring, so that we can move the regular office down there. the current office will become the guest room/sewing room, and the small bedroom (currently the sewing room) will become my study room.

sigh.

so, that (more or less) is the state of the dani. i'm alive, functioning, not being eaten by my job, not crawling into a hole. mostly just hating quilting (i love it except when i have a deadline) and getting my shit together.

happy winter celebration of choice, y'all.

IF YOUR LIFE WAS A MOVIE, WHAT WOULD THE SOUNDTRACK BE?
1. Open your library (iTunes, Winamp, Media Player, iPod, etc)
2. Put it on shuffle
3. Press play
4. For every question, type the song that's playing
5. When you go to a new question, press the next button
6. Don't lie and try to pretend you're cool ... (not much chance of that with my music collection)

productive weekend, for sure.

got rolling on our [livejournal.com profile] dykewaddery thang.
Made a run to Swann's for bulk goods, and hit some great sales at Redner's, including whole chickens for $0.69/lb, italian sausage for $1.59/lb, and mushy bananas (for Mer's muffins) at $0.20/lb.
Freezer, pantry, and fridge are bursting at the seams. Still have more stuff that needs to go in the freezer (mac & cheese, which is cooling) - not sure how we're gonna do that. Need to get a chest freezer for the basement ASAP.
Successfully butchered 3 chickens from the aforementioned sale, so not only do we have lots of various chicken parts, I've got three carcasses plus other chicken detritus in the freezer waiting to be made into stock. Yum.
Made two batches of OAMC muffins - banana walnut for Mer and corn for me.
Mer made two big batches of oatmeal - banana apple walnut for her and apple cranberry for me.
Made lasagna and mac and cheese.
Once we come up with a solution for freezer space, I need to make swedish meatballs and meatloaf.
Mer's done some kick-ass work in the kitchen.
There's a pork loin defrosting in the fridge for one night this week.
Price book is done and ready to be filled with pricey goodness.

I'm exhausted.

Oh! And...

We're set up for biodiesel for home heating through a Philly energy co-op. Same price, works just as well. Whee!

daniwithtea: (money down the drain)
The cable has been cancelled (although still active for the next week - Comcast is strange.)
The DSL is ablaze.
Our rotating cheap-ass menus are done.
The kitchen is being cleaned so I can bulk-cook tomorrow.

Folks, it has begun.

For those of you (okay, everyone) who have no idea what the fuck I'm talking about, Mer and I are on a quest to kill off all our credit card debt by December 2007. We gonna blog about it, because we're dorks. Check out [livejournal.com profile] dykewaddery if you're interested. Watch debts dwindle! Watch me cook lentils! Watch Meredith try to live without TV!
