happy birthday [livejournal.com profile] kyleri!!!

Had off yesterday for MLK - that was nice. I spent most of the day in an "I don't wanna!" state of mind, though. My first class is tomorrow, and I'm just not ready to give up my free time.

It's 90's week on [livejournal.com profile] audiography, and I'm enjoying it way too much.

I found two rolls of film - I haven't used a 35mm camera in years, so they're pretty old...one I'm pretty sure has pics from the wedding of my best friend from college (AKA the first girl I ever had a devastating crush on). She got married in, 2001 (I think?), so that will be interesting to see.

Serenity is officially the first HD-DVD to be decoded and torrented. My favorite slashdot comment on the subject? "If pirates are willing to rip off a HD version of "Serenity", then there should be enough demand to make another movie." If only.

Speaking of fan-girl dreamland, if you're a Buffy fan and you haven't heard...Joss Whedon is writing his own fanfic. Well, that's pretty much what it boils down to, at any rate. Buffy Season 8, from Dark Horse. True to form, Joss is writing first and last eps and some bits inbetween. First one comes out in March, and is available for pre-order here. (#2 also available for pre-order here.)

Let's see...birthday, school, pictures, Serenity, Buffy.

Yep, s'all I got for now!

Veronica Mars has been renewed for a third season.

Can I get a WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO-
HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!??????

it's over.

it's really over. my thoughts on the season finale of veronica mars. )

My thoughts on season 3 - here's hoping there is one. )

That's all I can say for now, as my fan is going and sounds like a lawnmower and i really don't want my fandom to fry my processor. now that's a phrase i never imagined saying.

if anyone knows where i can d/l tonight's ep, please let me know. i need to watch it again, partly for the fact that mer pointed out that logan was at one point wearing a shirt that looked eerily simlar to one jayne wears, and i need to see if my fandom really is colliding.

daniwithtea: (pretty little dead girl (lily))
that would be the sound of real life and fandom colliding.

(the actress that plays) lily kane went to my high school.

i knew this, but just saw it again, and it's strange. a (dead) character from the high school drama i'm obsessed with graduated to my high school.

bah.
daniwithtea: (see jayne lick)
There's a Serenity reference on Neopets today. In the Neopian Times, there's a picture of a trophy, and the caption reads, "Shiny, captain."
daniwithtea: (see jayne lick)
after making the icon of me with my new glasses earlier, I hit my 15-icon limit. and i still didn't have a veronica mars icon. so i spent $10 of my allowance on a year's worth of userpics. i'ma dork. a dweeb, even. but, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] fly_meaway, i have several lovely new VM icons. I also have a kick-ass jayne icon courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] qtmjbcs. *bounce*
daniwithtea: (joss whedon is my master now)
I suppose I should start this off by saying "Yes, i recognize that I'm obsessed. And a dork." Now that I've gotten that out of the way, here's some random commentary on my experience (any spoilers will be saved until the end and placed behind a cut.)

1: All Bets are Off
If I were the betting type, I'd be out a few hundred right now - my baby sister did not come crashing into this world during the movie on Friday night. As a matter of fact, as far as I know, she's still enjoying her stay in-utero. (Of course, we're going back for tonight's 7:20 showing, so that may change shortly...)
2. Dorks in Downingtown!
I want to know how the fuck I was unaware of the fact that there is apparently a sci-fi or whedonverse or something group numbering about 30-40 in this tiny little town! Seriously - there was this big group of them that arrived together, and then more kept coming in to join them. It never really occurred to me to go onto the browncoats site and say "hi, anyone going to the regal cinema in downingtown this friday?" 'Cause, hello, it's fucking downingtown!
3. LJ Rulz
as the movie was ending and people were exiting (mer and i are true dorks that stayed behind to watch the credits), these two young girls (I'd guess high-school age) walk by and one of them says something to the effect of, "I can't wait to get home and write about this in my LJ!" tee hee.
4. Take My Love, Take My Land, Take My Music?
they didn't use the firefly theme. at the very end of the credits, they played an instrumental version, and there may have been some versions of it played at parts during the movie (I plan on listening for that today), but seeing that firefly soar through the black at the beginning without that twangy guitar felt strange to me.
5. My Effects are Pastede On Yay
for having a small budget, the effects in this movie were pretty darn good. i saw someone comment that at times, it looked like the backgrounds were pastede on yay. i didn't pick up on that, but i was sucked in by the movie for most of it, and watching the ship, and the guns, and the people...
spoilers start very mild, and get bigger as I talk )
That's it for now - time to find my shoes, get mer out of the shower, and head back to the theater.

Go see this movie.

Can't stop the signal.
daniwithtea: (joss whedon is my master now)
i'm too tired (again) to talk about Serenity, especailly since we just finished putting up 22 quarts of cordials/liqueurs (chocolate, chocolate mint, coffee, grand marnier, cardamom vanilla, currant, apricot, blackberry sage, herbal tea, vanilla, maraschino cherry, anise, chipotle, amaretto, and cranberry spice) for yule gifts.

however, i just checked out last night's box office figures. flightplan was #1 at $4.4 mil, and serenity was #2 at $4.2 mil. we didn't get out to see it again tonight, but we are going tomorrow.

Here's hoping for Alliance Strikes Back... er, I mean Serenity II in theaters soon.
daniwithtea: (joss whedon is my master now)
I went. I saw. I laughed. I woo-hooed. I cried. I was an absolute dork.

I'm going back tomorrow.

For now, I'm tired, and cold, and my ass hurts from the stupid movie theater seats, so I'm going to bed.

But I will say this: If you have any interest in sci-fi, well-written characters, a gripping storyline, blowing shit up, and/or watching a trained prima ballerina (IRL) kick the living shit out of people, you need to see this movie. You don't need to have seen the series. You don't need to be a Joss Whedon fan. But you really should see this movie.

and i have i new icon. woo.
daniwithtea: (i aim to misbehave)
thanks to [livejournal.com profile] trinapink, [livejournal.com profile] juergen, [livejournal.com profile] arcadian72, [livejournal.com profile] hhholiday, and [livejournal.com profile] darkest_mind for all the tea and soap advice. I figred it'd be easier just to respond to you all here.

--> if I do end up making soaps, I'll definitely go the hand-milled route. I've got little time to devote to this as it is, and I don't want to be playing with lye if I'm hurried. Plus, too many Fight Club flashbacks. ;)
--> [livejournal.com profile] trinapink, I'll definitely send you an email with more questions about soaps, etc.
--> [livejournal.com profile] hhholiday - any ideas on where I can find small quantities of things like jasmine flowers, etc. to mix into green tea? I've seen some vendors online, but I just don't need a pound of each ingredient.
--> [livejournal.com profile] trinapink, I generally do a mailing of some kind to everyone we know - last year was cards and/or cookies - so you *are* on our list :)
--> [livejournal.com profile] darkest_mind - as far as the cost component, I'm not worried about molds (I'm thinking sliced loaves), and I'd only do three different kinds at most, so I'm not too worried about scents/colors, either. If I can find the soap base at a good enough price, do you think it would be fairly cost-effective?

I'm trying to gauge what would be best-received, when deciding between teas and soaps. It also depends on ingredients - for example, if I end up having to buy a pound of every single tea ingredient because I can't find them in smaller quantities, then that's probably out.

Ok, time to assemble my brown boots, brown coat, and "Joss Whedon is my Master Now" t-shirt, and head out to meet Mer at the theater for the 7:20 show. Time to take back the sky.

*Serenity fan squee!!!*
daniwithtea: (i love boobies)
i'm an unapologetic fan of the show, and here is my rundown on why this week is the "best week ever", in my little corner of the 'verse.

1. Henson Studios is making a major motion picture out of Fraggle Rock!
2. Baby sister coming soon!
3. Finally started physical therapy!
4. Grocery shopping on Monday got me twice as much food as I had planned, and I spent less than I had budgeted!
5. New haircut requires no product!
6. Eye exam tomorrow means new glasses soon, which means I can roll back the 800x600 display settings on my laptop!
7. Firefly marathon on SciFi last night, ending with an inside view of the making of Serenity!
8. I get to take guilt-free time off soon, crash in my home town, and hopefully see my beloved far-away friends like Topher, [livejournal.com profile] bunnyjadwiga, [livejournal.com profile] maziemaus, [livejournal.com profile] juergen, and Becky when I'm not fawning over new baby sis - and I won't be at work!!!!!!
9. OMFGVMSqueeeeeeee!!! (roughly translated, that's oh my fucking gods, veronica mars [tonight] - squeeeee!!!!!!!)
10. Serenity! Serenity! Serenity! Serenity! Serenity! Serenity! Serenity! Serenity! Serenity! Serenity!

In other news... )

Mer's on a date, so I have the house to myself. It's Friday, so there's four or five hours of CSI on Spike. (And they're episodes I haven't seen before!) I just had a 2-liter of Sprite and a pizza with bacon, ricotta, mushrooms, and olives delivered. I'm wearing sweats and a henley. ([livejournal.com profile] queentushy's former henley, in fact.) oh, and as a before-dinner snack, I polished off a container of Ben & Jerry's Uncanny Cashew. Veronica Mars premieres in less than two weeks, and two weeks from exactly now, I'll be in a theater watching Serenity. A week after that, my baby sister is due. Of course, Paige will probably decide to come into the world either right before or during one of the two premieres I'm so looking forward to. But I'm okay with that. I've forgiven my lil' brother for plenty of things over the years - I just might have to start early with her. :) Hmmm....I think I'll set the VCR for that Wednesday just in case.

I'm tired, and in a lot of pain, but life is good.
daniwithtea: (buffy kitty)
Veronica Mars spoiler behind cut!!! )
I really needed a good squee. It's been a shitty day.

Damnit, I need a good VM icon. Anyone have any suggestions?

On the brown rice front: after talking to my dad, we decided to make the rice saturday morning. while shopping for the rice, we found brown basmati rice, which not only will add a little flair to this otherwise dull bland mild menu, will cook faster, or so the goddess of rice, aka [livejournal.com profile] fuzzybutchkins says.

On the baby presents front: i strayed a little from my original idea, going with 2 books (Click Clack Moo and Fox in Socks), 2 CDs of non-irritating children's music (Kenny Loggins' "Return to Pooh Corner" and the album from Tom Chapin with "Family Tree" and "This Pretty Planet" on it), and a hand-sewn sample of the fabrics for the baby quilt: tiny pink checks, tiny purple checks, and a pale yellow fabric with pink-and-purple flowers on it for the squares; white fabric with purple, green, yellow, and pink stripes for the backing; and pink baby blanket edging for the edging. Not exactly a color scheme I'd have chosen, but it matches the baby's room almost exactly. The shower itself was interesting. the Malibu (mer's car) died on the way there, so i got a nice long walk in the 95-degree humid heat home for the jetta while mer waited for the tow truck. i'll let her regale you with that story on her own lj if she so chooses. so we were an hour late to the party, where i got asked quite a few questions about where i was going to school...at the time i couldn't figure out why (was i looking particularly young that day or something?) but then i realized i was there with my "roommate", and apparently these people only had roommates in college. ah, well. we cut out early, citing the drama of the car troubles and the "long drive" and headed home, but not before getting "pocket angels" that had been blessed by some holy catholic guy as our shower favors. the irony was not lost on me that the outfit i was wearing did not have any pockets.

on work: the lease exchange (just one of the many projects this year) is coming to a close. by 5:00 tomorrow, it will be done. well, my part in it will be. to celebrate, i'm actually *taking vacation time* next week. i realized there was going to be a lull, and i'm taking advantage of it. monday and tuesday. and since mer will presumably still be temping for her mom, it will be alone time! yay! there has definitely not been enough of that in my life lately. of course, now that mer's dating someone in the same state, my alone time might increase. much happiness on that front, for a lot of reasons.

on fandom: i get my firefly dvds back tonight. i believe there will be a marathon next week when i'm off. also, i am feeling like a total squee-ish fangirl after having seen veronica and logan kiss for the first time last night. how did i miss out on all the original veronica mars goodness? why did nobody beat me with a tv guide and tell me to watch this damn show from the get-go? most importantly, why are the first season dvds coming out *after* season two starts? not fair. at all. of course, the fact that vm s2 premieres on the 28th and the serenity premiere is on the 30th make that a very good week indeed. statistically speaking, it also makes it a very good week for work to explode and for paige to be born. just sayin'.

squee!
